Choose another adult

  • Another parent or caregiver
  • A teacher, school counselor, nurse, principal, or coach
  • A relative, neighbor, faith leader, or friend’s parent
  • A 988 crisis counselor

Say the part they may have missed

Adults sometimes hear “I am overwhelmed” without understanding that suicide or self-harm is part of the concern. If it is true, say the words directly. You are not being dramatic; you are giving them the information needed to act.

If you are at school

Go to a staffed office, counselor, nurse, teacher, or administrator. Do not leave campus alone while you may be unsafe. Tell them you need an adult to remain with you.

If you cannot reach someone you know

Call or text 988. If there is immediate physical danger, an attempt has begun, or urgent medical help is needed, contact emergency services.

This is not your fault

You should not have to persuade an adult that your life matters. Keep reaching until someone takes the concern seriously.
